Staff Picks: Specialized Pool and Spa Chemicals

Speaking specifically about our retail store in New Preston, specialty chemical products are fairly easy to find. Spa chemicals are in Leisure Time bottles with green, blue, teal, or purple lids. Pool chemicals are in Regal bottles with purple lids. This simple color-coded system has saved many accidental dosing of pools and spas! Other specialty products we use are by Natural Chemistry, and Jack's Magic. 

A specialty chemical is anything that isn’t a sanitizer, oxidizer, balancer, or algaecide. Specialty chems can be used for anything, from minimizing spa foam, to sequestering minerals and floc, to scrubbing scum off tiles. Called specialty not because they are any more special or important than all the other necessary chems, but because they are specially designed for a given task.

Our crew will use any number of such products on our serviced pools each week, ensuring that all pools and spas are kept in tip-top order, while not jeopardizing the balance of the water.

Crew Leader: An imbalanced pool can sometimes experience calcium scaling. If you’ve never seen it before, you’ll
still be able to recognize it, think chalky white buildup on your tiles and other pool surfaces. It’s not the end of the world but should be treated early. Getting your calcium hardness back into the recommended PPM range is step
one. Step two is grab some of Jack’s Magic Power Blue Scale Off and a scrubbing implement and apply liberally with some elbow grease. This product makes a tedious job manageable and will have your pool looking like new in no time!

Project Manager: Jack’s Magic Magenta Stuff is a sequestrant. We use it on all of our openings and new build start-ups. Basically, it isolates and controls plaster dust and other fine debris, it will prevent new stains, help remove existing stains, and protect your pool from scale build up. We love the Magenta Stuff because it works in any kind of pool, so if you have a salt water pool, this product will not tamper with or damage your salt cell. In fact, it has been shown to help extend the life of your cell! Some pool remedies will release phosphates into the water, compounding problems of cloudy water and algae growth, but not the Magenta Stuff, so it’s a more complete product and is not so specialized to one problem that it ignores or compounds other elements of pool maintenance.

Store Associate: This stuff is great. It’s made of an organic substance which will not tamper with your water chemistry. It is very effective, and unlike a lot of market clarifiers, you cannot overdose. Some products if you add too much they will have the opposite effect intended, but this won’t have any adverse or negative impact on your pool whatsoever. Our service managers swear by it.
