What to Consider When Hot Tub Shopping

The hunt is on, and you may be realizing that the options are overwhelmingly, seemingly, endless. Unless you are a previous spa owner, or a Type A personality who studies voraciously before making any decision, the shopping process can be very daunting.

Do you have a hot tub? Do you like it? If you answered yes to both of those questions, I would recommend checking out that brand and seeing what similar tubs they offer. It could be a simple solution!

If you don’t have a tub currently, but you have some prior hot tub experience, you can mull over whether you liked the brand(s) you have experienced, what features you did or didn’t like. What were some of those initial thoughts you had when you finished your first bubbly dip? Something like, “I loved the color… I wish it had more jets… Too big… Too small… Would have been cool if it had a built-in Bluetooth speaker and jets that respond to the music, or a built-in snack shelf…” Recognizing what you like, or would like to try, is a good place to start.

Something additional to consider, what kind of tub fits your lifestyle? Do you have children or teens who may use the tub? Consider safety and comfort. Do you plan on hosting parties, or is this a strictly “Me, myself, and I’s personal time” kind of situation? This could impact size and seating. Some tubs are built for two, some for eight, some with a combination of upright seats and lounging seats. Honestly the things they can come up with in these little water boxes is pretty amazing.

If you’re looking for some jet friendly hydrotherapy, the placement and power of jets is something you’ll want to focus on. I highly recommend visiting a couple of hot tub show floors and speaking with brand representatives regarding things like voltage, horsepower, what it would take to power a hot tub in your home or backyard, what they recommend as far as what you’re looking for.

If things like quality of materials, responsibly manufactured, locally owned matter to you, these are great questions to ask a brand representative or local professional.

If you stop by Denscot’s show floor, you’ll see our display tub, with its slip resistant pearl interior and coastal gray cabinet. Sometimes the very model you want is right there on the show floor. Many times, however, the manufacturers can take any combination of colors, size, interior, exterior, jet, lights, additional funky features, and more, and customize a hot tub to your specifications. You’re never locked into what you see there on the show floor.

It’s an exciting prospect, shopping for a new tub, and with that shopping comes a necessary measure of intentionality that you will thank yourself for later!
