After over 30 years in the industry, we have a well-spring of experience and knowledge to draw from daily. Any outdoor service industry professional will tell you, it’s just different from anything else out there, and the road is peppered with hurdles. Any one of us could fill multiple photo albums with snapshots and mementos from all the moments things didn’t go according to plan.

But for every tough moment, there are countless rewards, highlights and positive memories we wouldn’t have experienced had we been anywhere else. Spend enough time with some of our company leaders, and the hurdles become funny anecdotes and stories. The positive outlook truly is contagious. Contagious, but not innate or natural to many people. So how does one cultivate a healthy company culture, and foster resilience in one’s employees?
Like the rudder of a boat directs the aim and destination of the vessel, bosses set the tone for company culture and lead by example. Hard working, honest, communicative, able to admit a mistake and take ownership of the solution, are some of the key facets that make a boss a leader. It is essential when identifying and developing company culture to begin by identifying your company’s core values. For example, if Slimy Greg runs a money laundering business, and he values getting ahead by cheating and lying and stealing, he will cheat, lie, and steal, and his employee’s will cheat, lie, and steal. These would be his core values.
Denscot’s core values are Growth, Integrity, the Golden Rule, Team, No Gossip-No Drama. We believe these are the root of who we are as individuals and as a unit, and we strive to develop them further and exemplify them in our day-to-day lives, at work and at home. With these values at the forefront, we can avoid petty gossip, instead addressing our concerns or annoyances with the party or parties responsible or able to do something about it. We challenge ourselves and our employees to grow, both technically and personally through trained skills and education. We aim to treat everyone, coworker and client alike, as we would wish to be treated, and we do not let fear hold us back from trying new things, from pushing ourselves to grow, nor from having potentially uncomfortable conversations in lieu of gossip.
Whether you are looking to begin developing a better culture in your current workspace, or you are looking to find a new career set in a good company, remember that enthusiasm and passion are contagious. While leadership sets the tone, employees are not powerless and complacent, and even the employee with the least field experience can shape the development of a company by how they approach the job every day.
What are your core values? What are your goals for the future? If they align with Denscot’s, you may consider applying for a position on our team!
